Alex McDonald

Alex McDonald, CEO, Wholesale Market Brokers’ Association

Alex has twenty years of experience as a principal in fixed income and currency markets. Between investment banking and asset management, his roles have included market making, derivative arbitrage, managing franchises in currency and currency derivatives, proprietary macro trading and as a portfolio manager. 

Most recently, Alex was CEO and senior portfolio manager at BSAM Global Alpha Fund and prior to that a portfolio manager at OLEA Capital Partners (both global macro funds), focusing on fixed-income and FX globally. Alex was also a portfolio manager at BlueCrest Capital in the same markets.  

Prior to this, Alex was a Director, in charge of European currency trading at CSFB for eight years; before which he was Executive Director at Goldman Sachs on the fixed-income proprietary trading desk. He joined JP Morgan in 1988 and subsequently traded with and managed its futures, fixed income arbitrage and FX teams. He holds an MA from Cambridge University in Geophysics/Geochemistry.
